Discover our high-performance ski touring sock!

Ski mountaineering is the committed, competitive version of ski touring. It's sometimes extreme skiing, where the aim is to get around the mountains faster, further & for longer. This sport not only hurts your legs, it hurts your feet too! Between the rigidity of the boots, the freezing cold and the perspiration associated with the exertion, long ski mountaineering outings can quickly become an ordeal for your feet. For over a year now, Sidas has been working with the FFME (Fédération Française de Montagne et d'Escalade) and the French national team athletes to co-develop the best possible ski touring sock. The stakes are high, as this discipline will be making its debut at the Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 2026. Medals depend on every detail. That's why we've designed the ‘Ski Touring’ ski mountaineering sock, the ultimate technical ski touring sock. Discover the perfect blend of lightness, performance, comfort, breathability and durability here!

‘A clever blend of lightness, performance, comfort, breathability and durability’.

Why use technical socks for ski touring?

What are the essential accessories for ski tourers? How should you equip yourself for ski touring, whether you're a man or a woman? Here's a question that comes up like snowflakes every winter! There are a multitude of answers, but socks absolutely have to feature in this cast. Very often, the entire budget is spent on expensive ski touring boots and the bootfitting that goes with them!

This is a serious mistake, as Emily Harrop, multiple World Ski Mountaineering Champion and two-time winner of the legendary Pierra Menta, points out: ‘Feet are a real issue. They're our work tools. Not having to think about your feet is a real advantage in competition. Having a free mind means you can concentrate solely on your performance, your movements, your trajectories and your pace. A little foot pain can quickly put you out of your race...’.

Following this logic, buying technical socks designed specifically for ski mountaineering seems essential. That's where our Ski Touring sock comes from!

"Not having to think about your feet is a real advantage in competition. Having your mind free allows you to concentrate solely on your performance, your movements, your trajectories and your rhythm’. Emily Harrop, world ski mountaineering champion

What are the best socks for ski mountaineering?

Our ‘Ski Touring’ ski mountaineering socks are, in our opinion, the best ski touring socks on the market. And why is that? Because working with the athletes in the French team - champions who leave nothing to chance and dream of Olympic medals - drives our ambitions and our capacity for innovation.

By working with the skiers of the FFME, we have determined that a good ski mountaineering sock is :

  • A lightweight ski touring sock, because any superfluous weight is prohibited in the mountains, especially for competitors.
  • A high-performance ski touring sock, because this sport is practised by experts who want to move faster, higher and longer in the mountains
  • A comfortable ski touring sock, because ski mountaineers slide, run and walk for hours on end, in rigid boots and sometimes extremely cold conditions.
  • A breathable ski touring sock, because moisture is the foot's worst enemy, so you need to evacuate the perspiration generated by your efforts.
  • A ski touring sock that is durable and resistant, because many impacts can tear the product, particularly in the heel area.
  • An eco-responsible sock, because when you love this sport, it means you love the mountains, so you do your best to respect them.

With this in mind, we developed the ultimate ski mountaineering sock to take them to the summits: the Ski Touring ski touring sock.

‘A lightweight ski touring sock, because any superfluous weight is prohibited in the mountains, especially for competitors!’

Why choose our ski mountaineering socks?

In the previous paragraph, we defined the characteristics of good ski touring socks. Here's how we at Sidas have validated each of these criteria with a specific innovation in our Ski Touring sock:

  • Lightness: Designed with high-performance fibres, the Ski Touring sock stands out for its record thinness, which makes it almost imperceptible in rigid, carbon ski boots with very low boot volume.
  • Softness and comfort : Ski Touring ski mountaineering socks are made from merino wool, a natural fibre renowned for its incomparable softness and optimal breathability: merino wool has the super power to absorb 33% of its weight in moisture, without appearing wet.
  • Breathability : In a ski touring boot, moisture has two origins: perspiration due to exertion, and snow, which turns into water before penetrating the interstices of the boot. To evacuate this moisture, the Ski Touring sock has an adapted structure, with ultra-ventilated mesh in the forefoot.
  • Performance : To leave nothing to chance, we've integrated a non-slip grip strip above the ankle to optimise the sock's contact with the skin, limit microfriction and increase the transmission of force. The sock is also firmly tensioned to provide compression. This boosts blood circulation and energy flow to the legs.
  • Eco-responsibility: These ski mountaineering socks not only take care of your feet, but also the environment, as they have been awarded the Ecotech label for their eco-design. They are made from recycled fibres (59%) and organic merino wool (36%).
  • Available for men and women: Our technical ski touring socks come in 2 models: a Ski Touring sock for women, and another for men.

‘The “Ski Touring” ski mountaineering sock is made from merino wool, a natural fibre renowned for its incomparable softness and optimal breathability.’

What accessories are essential for ski mountaineering?

Emily Harrop's postulate has guided our R&D department throughout the manufacturing process of our ski mountaineering sock: ‘Not having to think about your feet is a real advantage in competition. Having a free mind means you can concentrate solely on your performance, your movements, your trajectories and your rhythm’.

That's why we've taken our thinking one step further, by looking at foot comfort as a triptych comprising the shoe, the sock and, finally, the sole. Emily Harrop, our world champion, gives her impressions of this sole: ‘In ski mountaineering, we have a culture of removing elements rather than adding them. We're constantly looking for ways to be lighter. So I was curious to try these insoles. I saw an immediate benefit: I felt my foot was well supported and more stable. It made me more efficient on the way up, as well as more precise, controlled and safer on the way down.
